Ann Arbor Troop 4 Boy Scouts have participated in an annual food drive for many years as part of their commitment to the Scout Promise to “help other people at all times.” For the past 17 years, they have averaged at least a literal ton of food, collected for the Tim Esch Scouting for Food Birthday Party in honor of Eagle Scout Tim Esch, who was the top collector for several years before his tragic death in an auto accident at age 18 in 2005.

Due to the pandemic in 2020, the Scouts asked friends, neighbors, and family to contribute monetary rather than food donations to Food Gatherers, the food bank and food rescue program serving Washtenaw County for more than 30 years, via this online site, with incredible record-breaking results! Since then the food drive has been a combination of monetary contributions on this site, and actual food donations with the return of the Birthday Party last year. The annual campaign is an opportunity for the Scouts to learn about the needs of their community, the many different ways Food Gatherers works with partner organizations to distribute food, and the power of working together to accomplish great things. Thank you for supporting Scouting for Food, which will provide healthy food and hope to the many people who still face food insecurity during these challenging times.

In Support of Food Gatherers
Our Mission: Food Gatherers exists to alleviate hunger and eliminate its causes in our community.

We rescue local food and leverage state and national food resources for hunger relief. We lead a network of hunger relief providers and engage the public in the fight against hunger. We create and sustain innovative new food programs in response to emerging needs. We recognize that hunger will not be solved through the provision of food alone, so we advocate for policies and system changes to create an equitable food system.
