  • Ann Arbor Troop 4 Boy Scouts have participated in an annual food drive for many
years as part of their commitment to the Scout Promise to “help other people at all
times.” In 2006, the project took on deeper meaning as a way to honor Eagle Scout
Tim Esch, who was the top collector for several years before his tragic death in an
auto accident at age 18 in 2005.

Thanks to generous donors, the Troop 4/Tim Esch Memorial Scouting For Food drive
has provided an average of 60,000 meal donations/year over the past few years
through Food Gatherers. The Scouts are working to do even more, considering that
Food Gatherers served over 8.2 million meals in FY 2024! Scouting For Food is an
opportunity for the Scouts to learn about the needs of our community, the many
different ways Food Gatherers works with over 140 partner organizations to distribute
food, and the power of working together to accomplish great things. Thank you for
supporting Scouting for Food, which will provide healthy food and hope to the many
people in Washtenaw County who face food insecurity every day.

In Support of Food Gatherers
Our Mission: Food Gatherers exists to alleviate hunger and eliminate its causes in our community.

We rescue local food and leverage state and national food resources for hunger relief. We lead a network of hunger relief providers and engage the public in the fight against hunger. We create and sustain innovative new food programs in response to emerging needs. We recognize that hunger will not be solved through the provision of food alone, so we advocate for policies and system changes to create an equitable food system.
