  • The Rotary Fights Child Hunger fund drive is our annual spring food and fund drive to support meals for children and families who are facing hunger. Collections from this campaign directly support Food Gatherers - Washtenaw County’s only food rescue and food bank program - to fight child hunger in our community. All gifts of $25 or more will be matched up to $15,000 by Todd and Margaret Kephart! More than 40 local businesses, organizations, and Rotary Clubs will collect funds and non-perishable food items for Food Gatherers to distribute to  140 non-profit partners and programs working to alleviate hunger in our community. Examples of these partners include the Salvation Army, Dawn Farm, Ozone House, Peace Neighborhood Center, Perry Nursery School, Dexter Senior Center, SOS Community Services, the Shelter Association of Washtenaw County, Hope Clinic, and many others.

Right now in Washtenaw County, more of our neighbors are facing food insecurity than at the height of the pandemic. This means that more individuals and families in our community are turning to their local food pantries and meal programs. The increased need means that food banks are challenged to make even more food available, despite increased costs.

12.5% or 1 in 8 individuals in Washtenaw County face hunger. Skyrocketing prices have stretched budgets even thinner for many in our community. This means that more of our neighbors, friends, and co-workers are turning to their local food pantries and meal programs, relying on Food Gatherers to fill the gaps.

Last year, Food Gatherers distributed a record-breaking 9.9 million pounds of food to more than 60,000 individuals in Washtenaw County. That's the equivalent of 8.2 million meals or over 22,000 meals every dayFood donations are wonderful and appreciated. However, our primary focus will be raising funds, which allows Food Gatherers to use its bulk buying power to distribute more food in our community,  Through the financial match, a $25 gift will provide 100 meals to our neighbors!

In Support of Food Gatherers
Our Mission: Food Gatherers exists to alleviate hunger and eliminate its causes in our community.

We rescue local food and leverage state and national food resources for hunger relief. We lead a network of hunger relief providers and engage the public in the fight against hunger. We create and sustain innovative new food programs in response to emerging needs. We recognize that hunger will not be solved through the provision of food alone, so we advocate for policies and system changes to create an equitable food system.
