A Message From Lawton Elementary - AAPS

Lawton Elementary school is working to support partner the Rotary in their 2026 Child Hunger Spring Food Drive in support of Food Gatherers - Washtenaw County’s only food rescue and food bank program to fight hunger in our community. Hunger is real in our county. Right now, 1 out of 8 of our neighbors are facing food insecurity. That's more than at the height of the pandemic. This means Food Gatherers is challenged to make more food available because more individuals and families in our community are turning to their local food pantries and meal programs to fill the gaps. This year’s campaign will run from Monday, March 9th to Friday, March 20th and focus on raising money with the goal of providing more than 100,0062 meals to beat our 2025 performance. Gifts of $25 or more made through the Rotary Fights Child Hunger food drive will be matched dollar for dollar up to $15,000. How generous is that! This means children living in our community will receive more of the food they need to grow healthy and strong. We thank you for any support you can give to our team or directly to the campaign.

In Support of Food Gatherers
Our Mission: Food Gatherers exists to alleviate hunger and eliminate its causes in our community.

We rescue local food and leverage state and national food resources for hunger relief. We lead a network of hunger relief providers and engage the public in the fight against hunger. We create and sustain innovative new food programs in response to emerging needs. We recognize that hunger will not be solved through the provision of food alone, so we advocate for policies and system changes to create an equitable food system.
