Food insecurity, defined by the USDA as a state of "limited or uncertain access to adequate food," affects over 42 million people in America. There is an enormous amount of work left to be done to truly eradicate hunger and its causes, but our group wants to take a step in the right direction. Especially in one of the richest countries in the world, there is no reason why so many people of varying identities and in varying regions should suffer from hunger. We seek to address this issue in our Michigan community by fundraising a substantial amount of money for the Food Gatherers, Michigan's first food rescue program, which exists to alleviate hunger and eliminate its causes in our community.
