A Message From Cecilia Woodring
Every year in November my school fundraises money so that Food Gatherers can feed people in Washtenaw County. Just last year they managed to distribute 8.5 million meals to the people in my community. Now it’s especially important that Food Gatherers receive funding. Since the government shutdown federal workers and military personnel have not been paid and have become food insecure. Plus SNAP is at risk, last year SNAP served an average of 41.7 million people per month and 45% of all SNAP recipients are children. Without a steady income and the risk of SNAP losing funding more people are going to depend on food banks.
Food Gatherers keeps food banks in my community running and they also offer food safety training, technical assistance, and other resources. By donating to them you're supporting kids and teens like myself, seniors, veterans, our bus drivers, our teachers, our cashiers, university students, military personnel, federal employees, and so many more people in Washtenaw County.

In Support of Food Gatherers
Our Mission: Food Gatherers exists to alleviate hunger and eliminate its causes in our community.
We rescue local food and leverage state and national food resources for hunger relief. We lead a network of hunger relief providers and engage the public in the fight against hunger. We create and sustain innovative new food programs in response to emerging needs. We recognize that hunger will not be solved through the provision of food alone, so we advocate for policies and system changes to create an equitable food system.
