A Message From Chloe Root
Hello, friends, family, neighbors & friends I don't yet know! I'm making the call to help each other/our neighbors in Washtenaw County *and* the Root Forum of Community High School by donating to Food Gatherers, one of the most effective (and healthy!) food banks in the country. Each dollar purchases three meals, and every dollar we raise will be matched by the Peplau family (up to $50,000!). That means that, as a school, Community has the potential to provide 300,000+ meals to folks who need it if we put our money where it counts! Every dollar literally counts (and not in a Chris Traeger way), since each dollar you donate (even if it's only one!) will end up providing six healthy meals for folks who could use it.
My forum is coming up with some creative fundraising ideas this year (we are happy to be back in person where we can do more fun stuff to raise money) including about half of us volunteering to get pied in the face if we raise a certain amount (there will be updates on our site), and hope you will help us to provide assistance to the folks who need access to healthy food, the number of whom have only grown during the pandemic.
Even if it's not in your budget at the moment, please re-post this link (www.tinyurl.com/foodgroot); anything you can do to spread the word is helpful! If you want to donate an amount smaller than $5/avoid the online donation fee, you can PayPal (paypal.me/rootaaps) or Venmo me (@ChloeLovellRoot or https://account.venmo.com/u/ChloeLovellRoot), or send a cash or check (to "Food Gatherers" and put "Root Forum" in the memo line). Up until November 18th you can send it to "Community High School, c/o Chloe Root, 401 N. Division, Ann Arbor MI 48104", or after that, get in touch with me and I will come pick up a local check!
In Support of Food Gatherers
Our Mission: Food Gatherers exists to alleviate hunger and eliminate its causes in our community.
We rescue local food and leverage state and national food resources for hunger relief. We lead a network of hunger relief providers and engage the public in the fight against hunger. We create and sustain innovative new food programs in response to emerging needs. We recognize that hunger will not be solved through the provision of food alone, so we advocate for policies and system changes to create an equitable food system.
