Food Gatherers is the food bank and food rescue serving Washtenaw County. Every fall, Community High School students join together and raise funds to help Food Gatherers feed the 44,500 people in our area that rely on local emergency pantries, meal programs and other distributions of healthy food to feed themselves and their families.
Food Gatherers serves the equivalent of 14,000 meals every day where we live, and is committed to healthy eating: 60% of food distributed is protein or fresh produce. Food Gatherers is also committed to reducing waste: last year, more than 40% of the 6.6 million pounds of food distributed was rescued food from local food businesses, which otherwise would have ended up in landfills.

In Support of Food Gatherers
Our Mission: Food Gatherers exists to alleviate hunger and eliminate its causes in our community.
We rescue local food and leverage state and national food resources for hunger relief. We lead a network of hunger relief providers and engage the public in the fight against hunger. We create and sustain innovative new food programs in response to emerging needs. We recognize that hunger will not be solved through the provision of food alone, so we advocate for policies and system changes to create an equitable food system.
