In Support of Food Gatherers
Our Mission: Food Gatherers exists to alleviate hunger and eliminate its causes in our community.

We rescue local food and leverage state and national food resources for hunger relief. We lead a network of hunger relief providers and engage the public in the fight against hunger. We create and sustain innovative new food programs in response to emerging needs. We recognize that hunger will not be solved through the provision of food alone, so we advocate for policies and system changes to create an equitable food system.

  • The Bentley Historical Library is Rockin' for the Hungry!

    Meg McKenzie

The Bentley Historical Library, joining with 107one and the Kroger Stores for Rockin' for the Hungry, has raised ONE MILLION MEALS for hungry people in our area. Food Gatherers is the Food Bank and Food Rescue Program serving Washtenaw County. We're raising funds to help Food Gatherers feed the 44,500 people in our area that rely on local emergency pantries, meal programs and other distributions of healthy food to feed themselves and their families. Donations made to Food Gatherers through Rockin' for the Hungry are tax deductible! Help the Bentley Historical Library feed our Community! Food Gatherers serves the equivalent of 14,000 meals every day in Washtenaw County, where 1 in 7 people are food-insecure. Food Gatherers is committed to healthy eating: 60% of food distributed is protein or fresh produce. Food Gatherers is committed to reducing waste: last year, around 40% of the 6.4 million pounds of food distributed was rescued food from local food businesses, which otherwise would have ended up in landfills.

  • Food Gatherers Family!

    Eileen Spring

Let's Raise 1 Million Meals for the Hungry! Food is at the heart of Thanksgiving and many other holidays. Imagine having to choose between paying for medicine, gas or electricity and buying food to celebrate special days or just ordinary ones. One in seven people living in Washtenaw County face these choices year round. Help your neighbors keep food on their tables on holidays and every day. Give to Food Gatherers' annual Rockin' for the Hungry fund and food drive. Your donation will help us reach our goal of raising 1 million meals for Washtenaw County residents who need food. During Rockin', your gift will be matched dollar for dollar. Community leaders Irene Fast and Kay and Harold Peplau have pledged $100,000 funds for campaign donations again this year. Radio station ann arbor's 107one will broadcast Rockin' for the Hungry live outside Kroger throughout the campaign. Stop by the Plymouth or Maple Road Kroger stores where volunteers, Food Gatherers staff and radio personalities will be "freezin' for a reason" to accept your donation of funds or non-perishable food items.
