Michigan Medicine’s longstanding partnership with Food Gatherers has made a real difference by providing healthy food to our community through our Million Meals Mission. In 2020, the food insecurity challenge in Washtenaw County became even more profound as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Michigan Medicine knew we needed to take meaningful, tangible action and rolled up our sleeves to hold food drives and engage our faculty, staff, and students in supporting our community.Building on the remarkable response from the Michigan Medicine community, the Million Meals Mission was created in fall 2022 with a goal of raising a million meals. In 2026, we reached an important milestone: Michigan Medicine exceeded its goal of raising one million meals for the community! But we're not stopping there. Given the continued need in our community and the incredible generosity our Michigan Medicine community, we are extending the campaign with the goal of raising another million meals. We invite you to be part of the next chapter of the Million Meals Mission. Every contribution provides nutritious food to our neighbors and families who need it most. Together, we have already demonstrated what's possible through educational awareness and the human spirit. As a community, "we are one", seeking to advance food as medicine and a key to improved health.Go Blue! For a full history of the first chapter of the Million Meals Campaign, please visit this page.

In Support of Food Gatherers
Our Mission: Food Gatherers exists to alleviate hunger and eliminate its causes in our community.
We rescue local food and leverage state and national food resources for hunger relief. We lead a network of hunger relief providers and engage the public in the fight against hunger. We create and sustain innovative new food programs in response to emerging needs. We recognize that hunger will not be solved through the provision of food alone, so we advocate for policies and system changes to create an equitable food system.
