This past year, local food insecurity rose from 12.5% to 14%. We experienced the longest government shutdown in US history at 43 days. SNAP benefits were disrupted for the 13,500 Washtenaw County households that rely on the food assistance program. All of these challenges, coupled with stubbornly high costs of living, have made it difficult for many of our neighbors to make ends meet.Still, with the support from generous community members like you, Food Gatherers is able to persist as the reliable food-safety net that ensures everyone in our community has access to the nutritious food needed to live a healthy life. In Support of Food Gatherers
Our Mission: Food Gatherers exists to alleviate hunger and eliminate its causes in our community.
We rescue local food and leverage state and national food resources for hunger relief. We lead a network of hunger relief providers and engage the public in the fight against hunger. We create and sustain innovative new food programs in response to emerging needs. We recognize that hunger will not be solved through the provision of food alone, so we advocate for policies and system changes to create an equitable food system.
