  • Due to the government shutdown, the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) has been suspended starting on Nov 1st. The change is estimated to affect 1.4 million households in Michigan who are at risk of facing food insecurity.

We are a small department but can make a large impact as a group. Join us in helping the fight against hunger for our community.

Thank you very much to members of our department who are anonymously matching our donations!
    - One of our colleagues has matched the first $500 of our donations
    - A second colleague will be matching $1000 if we reach out $4500 goal!

    More about Food Gatherers:
    - Food Gatherers distributes food through more than 140 partners and programs in Washtenaw County.
    - 95% of donations go directly to hunger-relief activities in our community.
    - Because Food Gatherers can purchase food at a significant discount, it is often more cost-effective to donate funds instead of food. For every dollar you spend to purchase food at the store, we can buy two to three times more from national wholesalers.

Our Mission: Food Gatherers exists to alleviate hunger and eliminate its causes in our community.

We rescue local food and leverage state and national food resources for hunger relief. We lead a network of hunger relief providers and engage the public in the fight against hunger. We create and sustain innovative new food programs in response to emerging needs. We recognize that hunger will not be solved through the provision of food alone, so we advocate for policies and system changes to create an equitable food system.
