For my birthday this year, I am asking friends and family to contribute to Food Gatherers in Ann Arbor. In November, SNAP food benefits won't be distributed for millions of people due to the government shutdown. SNAP helps individuals and families who are low income and facing food insecurity afford groceries each month. This is going to cause devastation for communities throughout the nation, and while the food bank and pantry system is not enough to fully address the gap, it is a critical lifeline.
I appreciate any amount, big or small, that you can contribute. I also encourage you to research what food pantries, recovery networks, and banks are in your community. If you want to learn more about SNAP and the important ways it helps to support families, reach out to me and I am happy to share some resources!
In Support of Food Gatherers
Our Mission: Food Gatherers exists to alleviate hunger and eliminate its causes in our community.
We rescue local food and leverage state and national food resources for hunger relief. We lead a network of hunger relief providers and engage the public in the fight against hunger. We create and sustain innovative new food programs in response to emerging needs. We recognize that hunger will not be solved through the provision of food alone, so we advocate for policies and system changes to create an equitable food system.
